My first kindle broke, so I bought a new one. How do I transfer my books to my new one? If I try to buy a book, it tells me I can’t because I haven’t set up an account, but I don’t know how! Help please!

I am graduating with a bachelors in one year from now and moving on to law school. During undergrad, I looked into the Kindle (and other similar products) as a possible textbook replacement, but never bought one because there really aren’t any textbooks that come in electronic form. Is this also the case with most law school textbooks?

I like the Amazon kindle, but I heard Sony has them, too. Could someone help me find the best and affordable one?
If better ones come out later, what makes them better than the ones now?

I am considering getting a Kindle. I read somewhere that there is a limited # of times an e book can be read on a single device. This is to discourage people from sharing books. Any truth to this? I know they can only be downloaded a certain # of times.
