Can you download textbooks you already own onto a kindle?

I own some textbooks and I am considering buying a kindle. I do not want to have to purchase these textbooks again so I can use a kindle. Is there any way that I can enter a code or ISBN number so I can easily download those textbooks onto a kindle without re-buying the books?

What I have heard is that, if your textbook came with a CD that has the Ebook on it, that you should be able to download it to your computer and then transfer it to the kindle.

The Kindle version and the paper versions of books are considered two separate products. If you own a paper version of a book, you still have to purchase the book again if you want the Kindle version.
If you have a book as a .pdf, then you can upload that to your Kindle for free.
Textbooks are hard to find on Kindle. And unless your textbook is just text (as in no pictures, no tables, etc.) then it’s going to look pretty bad on the Kindle. I’d say for now, keep your textbook that you have this time, and in the future consider getting the Kindle versions.
It depends on the format the book is in and the DRM (digital rights management).
If the book has no DRM (unlikely) you can easily submit the file to Amazon to convert into Kindle format. Keep in mind that the graphics are not very good and only in black and white.
I’ve heard rumors about the next generation Kindle being better suited for textbooks. You may want to wait for that to come out. The current version is good for pleasure reading, but in my opinion would be too small for a textbook. Unless you are an English/journalism/or similar major.
There is a 30 day no questions asked return policy. You can try it out and if it doesn’t work, then return it.
