How do I get a Kindle 2 in Singapore?

I understand that I would need a card from a bank in the US and a US billing and sending address. I don’t have a credit card from a bank in the US. I figure I can get the Kindle 2 from VPOST. However, what about the downloading of Kindle books? Would I be able to download the books without a US based credit card?

See the last third question from the Kindle 2 FAQ here, you cannot order any digital content from the Kindle store on Amazon right now if you are outside the United States. That means you cannot buy Kindle books from Amazon even you have the Kindle 2 device.

I’ll say the advantage of the Kindle 2 over other ebook readers is that it can access the internet everywhere for free. However, this benefit vanishes if you are outside the United States. I’ll suggest you to go for sony reader PRS-505 instead, quite a lot of people like it more than the Kindle 2 because it has better PDF support. The price is cheaper too. See a review below from an actual customer who compares the latest versions of sony readers and the Kindle:

Hope this helps.
