How do you buy books off the Kindle using a gift card?

I bought a gift card for kindle books, but i cant figure out how to use the card so that i can buy the books directly on the kindle using my girft card

First, enter the gift card into your amazon account. Then, when you buy items with 1-click off your kindle, it will take the money from the gift card and will then dip in to a credit card if necessary. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to figure out how to view remaining gift card balance on the actual Kindle, I always have to log online to see it.
I think you need to apply the gift card in your account first. See the section "Using Gift Cards for Kindle Purchases" in the link below for the steps:
